Kolkata Police on Tuesday, said that it has arrested 4 members of an ISIS-affiliate terror outfit from 2 places within the city.
Officers of Special Task Force (STF) arrested 4 operatives of ISIS-affiliate called Neo-Jamaat-ul-Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB). The JMB is a Islamic State (ISIS) affiliate, a police official said.
The group of these 4 members included 3 Bangladeshi and an Indian coming from West Bengal’sBirbhum district, a senior official of Kolkata Police said.
While 2 members of JMB were arrested from Sealdah area on Monday, their interrogation led to arrest of 2 others from Howrah Railway Station on Tuesday morning.
Three Bangladeshi members of this group had escaped from Bangladesh in order to escape arrest in their country. These 3 members were here to recruit under the ISIS banner. The 4th member, who was an Indian national, was helping these 3 Bangladeshis in recruitment and collection of funds.
A Kolkata Police senior official said, “A mobile phone having videos, images, and jihadi literature were seized from them”. He further added that “these ISIS-affiliate members were actively propagating their agenda on social media handles”.
