Bollywood actor Sunny Deol joined Bhartiya Janata Party days after he met BJP party president Amit Shah. The actor is likely to be the BJP candidate from Gurdaspur in Punjab.
“Like my father joined Atal Bihari Vajpayee, I also decided to go with PM Modi and I want him to be the Prime Minister for next 5 years”, said actor Sunny Deol.
Welcoming to the party, Defence Minister Nirmala Sitharaman referred to his blockbuster movie from 1997 “Border” based on an episode from the India-Pakistan in 1971 and said, “Suny Deol made the film which showed how the feeling of nationalism and patriotism when portrayed beautifully can touch a cord with the people.”
Union Minister Piyush Goyal also added, “It cannot be acting when it comes from the heart.”
The actor’s last movie “Mohalla Assi” was based on Ayodhya Ram temple in which his character was shown volunteering for Ram temple. The movie was shot in PM Narendra Modi’s constituency Varanasi.
Earlier Gurdaspur was the constituency of veteran actor Vinod Khanna, who died in 2017. After his death, there was buzz whether BJP would field his wife Kavita Khanna or son Akshaye Khanna from there.
The whole Punjab will vote in a single phase on 19th May 2019, which comes under the 7th phase of the Lok Sabha election 2019. The results of the polls will be announced on 23rd May 2019.
